                                                                            MEDICAL HEROES

 

Surgeon, anaesthetist, “theatre team”, in blue,

lower left leg, skilfully, two grafts will ensue,

wake up, drowsy, spacious recovery room,

smiling nurses delete earlier gloom.

 

Night, day, sensitive staff, smile, care,

knowledge, expertise, graciously share.

 

Fourth day, avoid books, computer, too lethargic,

no visitors, lockdown, COVID-19 pandemic,

doctor permits five-minute walk per two hours,

nurse assists in first of daily showers.

 

Thigh bandaged, leg clad in plastic,

upright, vibrant, refreshed, ecstatic,

return to bed, limb raised, lay on back

for seven days, medically on track.

Congratulations “Team”:

Doctors, nurses, staff walk tall, be proud

creating bonhomie, so explicitly profound.
